He was walking through the lobby of Omaha, Nebraska's Red Lion Hotel, wearing his hometown Boston Red Sox baseball cap. He was in the middle of a Midwest concert tour, traveling from city to city by private bus. When I asked him how long a drive he had to make to his next day in Ohio (thinking I might try to tag along), there was an ominous pause before he blithely informed me it was a 17 hour trip.
